UEW Launches Sports Policy to Improve Sporting Activities

The Office of Amalgamated Sports Clubs of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) on Saturday, 7th March, 2020 launched a sports policy at the Senior Members Association (SEMSA) Club House, North Campus, Winneba.

The policy would be a guide for the organisation and management of sporting activities in the UEW. It would ensure the development, efficient and effective use of sports talents and facilities to attain excellent performances in the area of sports.

The policy is to aid the Association unearth and develop talented athletes for the UEW and Ghana; create special pathways for admission of talented athletes into the University; monitor student-athletes’ sports and academic performances; seek the welfare and safety of student-athletes performing for the University; provide and maintain inclusive, adequate and sustainable sports facilities; and provide equal opportunity for men and women, as well as, persons with disability to participate in sports with needed facilities provided.

It would ensure effective access of all sporting and recreational facilities on campus in order to meet the objective of fitness and wellness for students, staff, the University, Effutu community and the nation. It would also foster collaboration and secure sponsorship with important stakeholders for the development of sports in the University as well as assist needy but potential student-athletes develop both sporting and academic career.

The Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni, who launched the policy on behalf of the Association, assured the sports men and women present that, Management would continue to provide the needed support to improve the living and academic standards of the athletes.  


There were awards and dinner night on the day where numerous sports men and women won awards for themselves and enjoyed delicious meals. The Department of Music Education of the UEW also spiced the occasion with great highlife tunes.
